Chainsaw Man is a manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto. The first part ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2018 to 2020, and the second part conti30-dayn the Shonen Jump+ app. Viz Media publishes it in English, and it has become one of the biggest manga of the last decade.

Denji is broke. He inherited his dead father’s debt to the yakuza and he pays it off by hunting devils with his pet chainsaw dog, Pochita. His ambitions run about as far as eating proper meals and finding a girlfriend. Then the yakuza betray him and kill him, and Pochita makes a deal to bring him back. Now Denji can pull a cord in his chest and turn into Chainsaw Man.

What follows is violent, funny and much sadder than its premise suggests. Denji gets recruited into Public Safety by Makima, a woman whose motives are never quite clear, and is partnered with Aki Hayakawa and Power, a blood devil who is loud, selfish and completely brilliant. The series is built on devils that embody real fears, so you get a Gun Devil, a Bomb Devil and a Future Devil, and Fujimoto keeps finding ways to make that concept hurt.

MAPPA animated the 12-episode first season in late 2022. The story continued in Chainsaw Man: The Movie: Reze Arc, which opened in Japan in September 2025, took more than 174 million dollars worldwide and ended up the highest-rated film of the year on Letterboxd. It reached Crunchyroll on 30 April 2026.

MAPPA confirmed the next chapter, the International Assassins Arc, at Jump Festa in December 2025. It is in production with no release date announced.
