We do not recommend washing your inner pillow. It may have an odor when you first remove the packaging, but that will disappear after a few hours.
Instead, we recommend buying a body pillow cover and only washing that.
When washing an inner pillow, be aware that it may cause damage. If you are still looking to wash your pillow, follow the steps below carefully.
MACHINE WASHING:
- You can wash your pillow with a washing machine.
- We recommend using a mild powder laundry detergent, preferably a dry one. Liquid detergents can cause clumping in the filling.
- Fold your pillow either in half or around the drum of the washer.
- Only use cold or warm water. High temperature water can cause shrinkage or ruin the general shape of the pillow.
- To ensure the detergent is fully rinsed out, choose a second rinse cycle. If your washing machine doesn't have this option, re-wash the pillow instead.
- Avoid washing the pillow with any other items. It may affect the shape of your pillow, or damage your washing machine.
HAND WASHING:
- If your pillow is too large for your washing machine, you can hand wash it instead.
- We recommend using a bathtub so the entire pillow will fit.
- Fill the bath tub with cold water and mild detergent. Avoid using hot water.
- First you should soak the entire pillow, then gently massage the soap into the pillow for 5-10 minutes until the pillow is clean.
- Next empty the bathtub, and fill it again with clean water. Gently squeeze the pillow until all of the soap is out. Avoid twisting or wringing the pillow.
DRYING:
- If you used a washing machine, then we recommend drying the pillow with a dryer.
- Use the lowest heat setting that your dryer has available.
- We recommend tumble drying and adding 2-3 dryer balls or tennis balls covered in socks to recover the pillows full fluffiness.
- It will most likely take 3 hours to fully dry.
- Once your pillow is fully dry, fluff up the pillow by holding the corners and fluffing diagonally.
- If you find any lumps, massage them out with your hands.
- If you handwashed your pillow, then we recommend leaving it out to air dry. Place the pillow flat in front of a fan or the sun. Don't keep the pillow in front of the sun for more than 2 hours, as it will cause discoloration. If it isn't dry after 2 hours in the sun, bring it inside to finish drying.
DO NOT:
- Use bleach or other special chemicals for whitening clothes.
- Iron your pillow inserts.
- Use brushes while handwashing.
- Wash with other items.
- Rollover dry.

What is a dakimakura?
A “dakimakura” (also known as an “anime body pillow” or “waifu pillow”) is a type of large pillow with a printed design from Japan. The word dakimakura translates to “hugging pillow”.

We offer two sizes: 50x150cm and 50x160cm. These are the most common dakimakura sizes, and perfectly fits our pillow covers. Not sure which one to pick? In our opinion, bigger is always better but you need to also consider your own size, and the size of your bed (or wherever you are planning on leaving your pillow).
