Jujutsu Kaisen is a manga by Gege Akutami. It ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2018 to 2024 and finished at 30 volumes, selling tens of millions of copies along the way. Viz Media publishes it in English.

Negative human emotion leaks out into the world and takes physical form as Curses. Jujutsu sorcerers exist to destroy them, and it is a short, ugly career. Yuji Itadori is a high school student who swallows a preserved finger belonging to Ryomen Sukuna, a Curse so powerful he is effectively a demon king, and becomes his vessel. Rather than execute him immediately, the sorcerers decide to let him live until he has eaten all twenty fingers, then kill him.

That deadline hangs over everything. Yuji enrols at Jujutsu High under Satoru Gojo, the strongest sorcerer alive and by far the most irritating, and works alongside Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki. The series is bleak, the fights are inventive, and Akutami is famously unsentimental about who survives.

MAPPA has handled the anime throughout, and the action animation is a large part of why it exploded. Season one aired in October 2020, the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 followed in December 2021 and season two covered the Hidden Inventory and Shibuya Incident arcs in 2023.

Season three, The Culling Game Part 1, ran for 12 episodes from 9 January to 26 March 2026 and opened with a one-hour special. A fourth season was announced immediately after the finale and will continue the Culling Game.
