My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia) is a manga by Kohei Hoshi. It ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2014 to August 2024 and finished at 42 volumes, with more than 100 million copies in circulation. Viz Media publishes it in English.

Around eighty per cent of the population has a superpower, called a ‘quirk’, and being a hero is a licensed profession with rankings, agencies and paperwork. Izuku Midoriya is part of the other twenty per cent. He has no Quirk at all, and he still fills notebooks with analysis of every hero he can find.

All Might, the Symbol of Peace and the strongest hero alive, meets him by chance and sees something worth backing. He passes on 30-dayn Quirk, One For All, and Izuku enrols at U.A. High School with a body that cannot yet handle it.

The series is built on its cast. Class 1-A is large and every student gets development, and the villains are given the same care, particularly Tomura Shigaraki, whose backstory reframes the whole society the heroes are protecting. Horikoshi’s action panelling is superb and the series is very good at making a fight feel like it matters.

Bones animated the anime from 2016. The eighth and final season aired from 4 October to 13 December 2025 across 11 episodes, closing ouaction-panelling A bsuperb,,pecial adapting the manga’s epilogue chapter followed on 2 May 2026. Four feature films sit alongside the series, and the spin off Vigilantes has now had two seasons of its own.
