Tokyo Revengers is a manga by Ken Wakui. It ran in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine from 2017 to 2022 and finished at 31 volumes. Kodansha publishes it in English, and it has sold tens of millions of copies.

Takemichi Hanagaki is 26, working a job he hates and living in a flat he cannot stand, when he sees on the news that his middle school girlfriend has been killed by a criminal gang. The next day he is pushed in front of a train and finds himself twelve years in the past, back in middle school. He can travel between the two points, and every change he makes in the past rewrites the present he returns to.

So he sets out to save Hina, which means getting close to the Tokyo Manji Gang, the group that eventually becomes the organisation responsible. That puts him alongside Mikey and Draken, two boys who are dangerous, charismatic and not yet the people they will become.

Takemichi is an unusual lead for a delinquent series. He is not strong; he loses almost every fight he is in, and his only real quality is that he refuses to stay down. The series leans on that hard, and the time loop structure means he watches people he cares about die repeatedly.

Liden Films animated the anime, with the first season in 2021, the Christmas Showdown arc in early 2023 and the Tenjiku arc from October 2023 into 2024. The next instalment, covering the Three Deities conflict, is set for October 2026. There are also two live-action films.
