The Top 10 Ecchi Animes Of All Time

Table of Contents

If you’re looking for the best ecchi animes of all time, then you’ve come to the right place. In this list, we’re going to break down our favorite ecchi shows across the years. This list will have everything from harems, comedy and even incest! Keep reading to learn more.

What Does Ecchi Mean?

Ecchi is a Japanese slang term for playfully sexual actions. Quite often it can be used instead of words such as “sexy”, “dirty” or “naughty”. It can also be used to describe lascivious behavior.

What Is the Difference Between Ecchi and Hentai?

While the ecchi and hentai anime genres are both sexual in nature, they have their differences. Ecchi is a lot milder and softer in content compared to hentai, and often won’t show nudity. Instead, it will use hand or object placement, or specific lighting and angles to avoid proper nudity while still showing as much as possible. This is why ecchi animes can be shown on regular TV channels in Japan. Ecchi can also include pantie shots and sexually suggestive positions. Often ecchi animes are also mixed with other genres such as action, comedy, harem or romance.

In contrast, hentai will show full nudity (with or without blurring) and is often focused on sex or indecent acts. Hentai is not allowed on regular TV channels in Japan, and usually lacks any kind of plot.

1. High School DxD (2012)

High School DxD is considered to be one of the greatest ecchi animes ever created, and for a long time defined the genre. The protagonist Issei Hyoudou is your regular pervert who wants to create his very own harem and enjoys peeping on women. On his first ever date, he is killed by a fallen angel and then brought back as a servant to a sexy demon. This anime has a mix of angels, demons and humans and is filled with sexual moments and high school hijinks.

2. To Love Ru (2008)

Often referred to as the godfather of ecchi, To Love Ru would make anyone’s top ecchi list. Filled with plenty of laughs and plenty of girls, To Love Ru doesn’t hold back of fanservice or comedy. Due to a crazy series of events, our main protagonist Rito Yuuki meets an alien by the name of Lala, who is the princess of the planet Deviluke, in his bath tub – stark naked. Due to a misunderstanding, they get immediately get engaged, and so begins Rito’s crazy adventures. As more and more girls are introduced, Rito gets clumsier and clumsier and creates some very awkward and hilarious encounters that are very perverse.

3. Prison School (2015)

Prison School is one of the funniest animes on this list, but don’t let that fool you – it’s packed with plenty of fanservice to keep you satisfied. The story revolves around Hachimitsu Private Academy, an all-girls school in Tokyo that has decided to let boys enrol for the first time ever. But after the first day of implementing these new rules, only 5 boys are left remaining! And to make things worse, the school’s student council is strict and merciless, while the 5 boys are hopelessly perverted.

4. Kiss X Sis (2010)

A very controversial pick, but Kiss X Sis is one of the lewdest animes you will come across. And as the name suggests, it is filled with incest. The story involves Keita Suminoe’s dad getting remarried after the death of his mother, and leading Keita to gain two new twin step-sisters. These sisters quickly become madly in love with him, and fight for his affection… And not brotherly love, either. If you are just watching anime to see naughty scenarios, this is the perfect pick for you.

5. Everyday Life with Monster Girls (2015)

A show that is always bound to come up in a discussion about ecchi animes, Everyday Life with Monster Girls is exactly what it sounds like. The premise is simple – if monsters exist, so must monster girls. And these monster girls are desperate to date human men. Thanks to the “Interspecies Cultural Exchange Act,” monster girls are free to live on Earth similar to a foreign exchange program. While our protagonist Kurusu Kimito isn’t an official participant in this program, he soon gets entangled (literally) with a variety of monster girls including Miia half human half snake, Cerea the centaur, Papi the harpy, Suu the slime girl, and many more.

6. The Testament of Sister New Devil (2015)

If you want something a little more sexual, The Testament of Sister New Devil is closer to softcore hentai, with an interesting plot and characters mixed in. It is filled with plenty of action, comedy and harem moments that will keep you glued to the screen. The show focuses on Basara Toujo, whose dad gets remarried and moves away for work. Basara then has to move in with his two new step-sisters who are part of a demon clan, while Basara is part of a hero clan! While living alone with his new step-sisters, he treads the line between battling them, protecting them and occasionally embracing them. Just be careful, this show is not subtle when it comes to trying to excite its viewers with lewd moments.

7. No Game No Life (2014)

No Game No Life might be the highest-quality show on this entire list. With an impressive 8.08 rating on MyAnimeList, and ranked #16 on their popularity list, you are missing out if you haven’t seen it yet. The story is based around two stepsiblings, Sora and Shiro, who are inseparable. Together they share the username “Blank”, and dominate various online games. After responding to an unknown user, they are transported to a world where everything is decided by games. With great humor, unique animation, interesting games, and most importantly plenty of lewd encounters, No Game No Life is a must-watch. Just a little warning though, despite its overwhelming popularity, only one season has ever been released. Fans are desperate for another season, so we are hopeful another is around the corner.

8. Food Wars (2015)

Probably not what you were expecting on an ecchi list, Food Wars is a very popular anime centered around cooking. Our protagonist Souma Yukihira has been cooking alongside his father for as long as he can remember, cooking at a local restaurant. One day his father leaves to get a new job in New York and sends Souma to the prestigious Tootsuki Culinary Academy, the world’s most famous cooking school which is almost impossible to get accepted into, and only 10% of students end up graduating. Food Wars feels like a shounen anime, with everything on line, constant tournaments and rankings, and every character fighting to be the best. So where does the ecchi come in? Well, the show presents the enjoyment of food in a very interesting way, which leads to nudity and foodgasms. This is not an exaggeration. If you want a very enjoyable show that has a lot more substance than most of the list so far and has plenty of seasons to binge, this is the perfect choice.

9. Shimoneta (2015)

Shimoneta is one of the stranger animes on this list, which utilises a crazy yet hilarious premise. Set in an alternative version of Japan, the world has decided to ban any form of dirty talk and vulgar acts, including sex jokes. Luckily, there are some loopholes in this system, and the protagonists of Shimoneta are determined to use these flaws to spread their love of dirty jokes and indecent acts.

10. Mayo Chiki!

While having fewer ecchi scenes than some of the previous list, Mayo Chiki makes up for it with charm and ships. The main protagonist Kinjirou Sakamachi has a fear of women thanks to his mother and sister’s obsession with wrestling. It gets to the point where even a simple touch from a girl can lead to a nosebleed. By accident, he discovers that the butler to his headmaster’s daughter, is actually a girl. To keep her secret, she makes a deal with Kinjirou to help cure his phobia.

Hopefully with this extensive list, you could find a few ecchi animes to add to your to-watch list. Or even better yet, you will start binging after closing this article. While there were too many ecchi animes to list, we hope you agree with our top 10.
